Grill & oven

Stop scrubbing. Let the chemistry do it.

CleanSlate is an alkaline degreaser for baked-on grill and oven grease — the black, welded-on kind that a wire brush only scratches. Spray it, leave it, wipe it off.

  • Converts cooked-on fat into something water-soluble instead of abrading it
  • No wire brush, so no scratched grates and no bristles in your food
  • Works on grates, oven interiors, extractor filters, trays and hoods
  • 90-day money-back guarantee — keep the bottle

CleanSlate Grill & Oven Degreaser

Why baked-on grease resists everything else

Fat that is heated repeatedly stops behaving like fat. Oxidation and polymerisation cross-link it into a hard carbon film bonded to the metal — closer to varnish than to grease. Detergent is designed to lift liquid oils; it has nothing to say to a polymer. A brush removes the loose top and scratches whatever is underneath.

Breaking the bond takes chemistry, and two mechanisms do it.

Cross-section of a grill grate during cleaning Three stages shown in cross-section. First, the degreaser is sprayed onto a hard carbon layer bonded to the metal. Second, during the dwell the solution works beneath the layer and converts the fat it contains into soap. Third, the layer has released from the metal and wipes away. 1 · Spray Hard carbon layer, bonded to the metal 2 · Wait Solution works underneath and turns the fat to soap 3 · Wipe The layer lets go and comes away with a cloth
What the dwell is doing, in cross-section. Diagram, not a photograph — results vary with how much build-up you are starting from.

It saponifies the fat

Alkaline builders react with the fatty acids in the deposit and turn them into soap — water-soluble, and easily wiped away.

It gets underneath

Surfactants drop the surface tension so the solution creeps beneath the carbon layer rather than beading on it, and the grip lets go.

Dwell time does the work

Both reactions need the surface to stay wet. That is why the instruction is to wait, not to scrub harder.

Three steps

Spray

Cold, dry surface. Wet it evenly — never apply to a hot grill.

Wait

Let it dwell for the time given on the label. Re-mist if it starts to dry out.

Wipe

Damp cloth or non-scratch pad. Rinse food-contact surfaces and dry.

Not for aluminium, anodised finishes or bare polished metals — alkaline cleaners dull and etch them. Patch-test somewhere hidden first. Wear gloves, ventilate, keep away from children and pets, never mix with bleach or any other cleaner, and rinse every food-contact surface before cooking. Follow the label; it takes precedence over this page.

Questions

How long do I leave it on?
Follow the dwell time on the label. Heavier build-up wants a longer dwell and sometimes a second application — it is nearly always faster than scrubbing, and it is always less damaging to the grate.
Is it safe on a grill I cook on?
Yes, provided you rinse thoroughly and let the surface dry before cooking. It is a cleaning product, not a food-contact coating, so nothing should be left behind when you are done.
Will it strip the seasoning off cast iron?
Yes — that is what it is doing, since seasoning and baked-on grease are chemically the same thing. Re-season cast iron after cleaning it. If you want to keep a seasoning layer, this is not the product for that grate.
What can I not use it on?
Aluminium, anodised finishes and bare polished metals. Alkaline cleaners dull and etch them. Patch-test anything you are unsure about.
How many bottles do I need?
One bottle handles a normal domestic grill clean-down with some to spare. People who look after several grills, or who want one in the kitchen and one outside, tend to take the three-pack.
What if it does not work for me?
Email info@goodforgirlz.com inside ninety days and we will refund you. You do not need to send the bottle back.
