The detail

Baked-on grill grease isn't ordinary dirt. Heat turns cooking fat into a polymerised carbon layer that bonds to metal — which is why a wire brush and washing-up liquid get you nowhere, and why you end up scrubbing until your arm aches for a grate that still looks grey.

CleanSlate is an alkaline degreaser built for that specific problem. You spray it on, you let it sit, and you wipe. The chemistry does the work that scrubbing was doing badly.

How it actually works

Two things happen while it dwells on the surface:

Saponification. The alkaline builders react with the fatty acids in cooked-on grease and convert them into a soap — which, unlike the grease, is water-soluble and rinses away.
Surfactant lift. Surfactants cut the surface tension so the solution creeps under the carbon layer and breaks its grip on the metal instead of sitting on top of it.

That's why dwell time matters more than elbow grease. Spray, wait, wipe.

How to use it

Spray the cool, dry surface until it's evenly wet. Don't apply to a hot grill.
Wait. Give it the dwell time printed on the bottle — that is the step doing the work. Don't let it dry out; re-mist if it does.
Wipe with a damp cloth or non-scratch pad, then rinse any surface that touches food and dry it.

Not for use on aluminium, anodised finishes, or bare polished metals — alkaline cleaners can dull or etch them. Always patch-test somewhere hidden first.

Safety

Alkaline degreasers irritate skin and eyes. Wear gloves, work in a ventilated space, keep it off your face, and keep it away from children and pets. Rinse any food-contact surface thoroughly and let it dry before cooking. Never mix it with bleach or any other cleaning product. If it gets in your eyes, rinse with water for 15 minutes and get medical advice. Read the label before use — the label directions take precedence over anything on this page.

Questions about this product

What can't I use it on?

Aluminium, anodised finishes and bare polished metals — alkaline cleaners dull and etch them. Patch-test anything you're unsure about.

Will it strip cast iron seasoning?

Yes. Seasoning and baked-on grease are chemically the same thing, so it can't tell them apart. Re-season afterwards, or don't use it on a pan you've spent years building up.

Is it safe around food?

Rinse every food-contact surface thoroughly and let it dry before cooking. It's a cleaner, not a coating — nothing should remain.

What if it doesn't shift it?

Email us within ninety days and we'll refund you. You don't need to post a part-used bottle back.

Thirty days to change your mind

Unused and in its original packaging, within thirty days, for a refund. If it arrives damaged or isn't what you ordered, we cover the return shipping and usually don't ask for it back at all.
